Write for us

We welcome well-shaped proposals that help readers understand how news is reported, checked, edited, presented or read. A useful pitch has a clear question and a subject that will remain worth exploring beyond one news cycle.

What makes a strong pitch

Tell us the central idea, why it matters to a general reader and what the piece would add beyond a summary of familiar advice. We are interested in careful explainers, comparisons, histories of news practices and close looks at a particular editorial choice. Keep the proposed scope focused and explain what material would support the piece.

Care with claims

Pitches should separate what is known from interpretation, avoid invented scenes and identify any relevant interests or relationships. We value plain language, useful context and a willingness to revise. Do not send confidential material or assume that a proposal will be commissioned or published.

Send a proposal

Use the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a working title, a short outline, your proposed approach and a brief note about relevant experience if you wish. Proposals are reviewed as capacity allows; we cannot promise an individual response to every submission.
